I would like thank everybody involved with the organisation of the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10km run on Sunday. The organisers, charities, Middlesbrough council, the local NHS and everyone who ran deserve thanks for their efforts.
I ran my first 10km on Sunday in what I thought was a respectable 55mins and 33 seconds, for the local branch of the Royal British Legion. This was the first time I have done any serious exercise in quite some time and I have lost a bit weight during the training - taking part really was worthwhile for me personally.
What was truly fantastic about the event was the way the community came together. Supporters and well wishers lined the streets clapping - bands and musical acts performing for the runners - and every pub lining the route was full of people enjoying themselves.
The Middlesbrough 10km is a great event where the town and Teesside come together to raise money and show community spirit. Long may it continue!
I want to thank everyone who has worked so hard on my campaign over the past 18 months. I owe you all a huge debt of gratitude.
