26/11/09 - Meeting with the North East of England Process Industry Cluster with Greg Clark MP

Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Greg Clark and Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland, Paul Bristow, met with the North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) to discuss the chemical, manufacturing and other industries on Teesside.

Greg, who is also Shadow Minister for Teesside, also had a tour of the site owned by the Ensus Group who are building Europe’s largest wheat refinery at Wilton near Redcar.

Greg and Paul heard about what NEPIC wanted to see from a future Conservative Government and discussed how Teesside can use its infrastructure and skills advantages to secure jobs and investment for the future.  All agreed that Teesside could be a European centre for clean carbon capture, the chemical industry and green energy.

Commenting after the visit, Paul Bristow stated: ''I am delighted Greg came to see for himself some of the exciting projects underway in our region.  By having Greg as Shadow Minister for Teesside we have a powerful advocate in a future Conservative Government.

"With so many industries clustered together and our excellent infrastructure, Teesside can really excel in the industries of the future.  With the right combination of encouragement from government, ambition and private sector investment, our region can reach its great potential.''
