27/01/09 - Responding to Corus and Seadragon announcements

Responding to the announcement that 2,500 jobs are to go at Corus and the question marks over the Seadragon project, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland, Paul Bristow stated:

"It looks like Teesside will not bare the brunt of job losses at Corus but after the Seadragon blow, jobs and unemployment is still the number one issue in this part of the country.  I fear Labour's attemps at tackling the recession are not working.

"I hope anyone who does lose their job on Teesside as a result of this announcement are given the chance to re-train immediately and that the Government will relax the rules on Jobseeker's allowance to allow this to happen.

“The Government still hasn’t gone far enough to free up the credit market helping to protect businesses and jobs. That is why the Government must adopt a national loan guarantee scheme that will support companies of all sizes through these difficult times and help Teesside realise its full potential.”
