Commenting on the news that Corus has confirmed plans to mothball the blast furnace at Teesside Cast Products in Redcar, Paul Bristow the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland said:
"After all that has been said about what the closure would mean for Teesside, it is shocking that no solution has been found for TCP. It is clear the company has been determined to mothball the plant ever since the idea was first mooted. Nothing the Government or our MPs have said has changed their mind or attracted a new buyer for the plant.
"The Government have been only too eager to act with the car industry in the West Midlands but have failed here on Teesside. The steel industry is iconic for our area and cannot be allowed to disappear.
"These job losses are going to devastate Teesside. I only hope they are temporary and a buyer is eventually found.''
I want to thank everyone who has worked so hard on my campaign over the past 18 months. I owe you all a huge debt of gratitude.
