11/03/10 - Conservatives will recognise vital role charities play

Conservative Candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, Paul Bristow, visited Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community this week to see for himself the vital work its staff are doing to help those most in need.

Paul was joined by Conservative MP David Davis and together they discussed how sport and charities such as this can help young people with their education.  Moreover some teenagers who have left school come and enrol on other courses for a second chance once they are seventeen or eighteen to learn new skills.  They can arrange work placements as well as teaching vocational skills.

They also witnessed the challenges a charity such as this has with funding, how they could achieve more with additional security of funding and how they are have to make many simultaneous applications just to stand still.

Commenting, Paul Bristow said: "It was fantastic to welcome David Davis to Teesside and show him some of the wonderful things going on with Middlesbrough Football Club in the community.  He was able to see first hand the work the charity does with kids who are struggling in mainstream schools and power that football and sport can have in improving life chances.

"I want to see more support for the vital role charities such as Middlesbrough Football Club in the community play in lives of local families. A Conservative government will reduce the bureaucracy faced by charities and voluntary groups."
