26/04/10 - Philip Hammond, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury to North Skelton

Paul Bristow, the East Cleveland prospective Conservative MP, visited North Tees Components at North Skelton today with Philip Hammond MP, Conservative Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

They were welcomed by Mr Clive Wood, the Managing Director, and Ms Sharon Lane, the General Manager, and went on a tour of the works. Mr Hammond has a considerable interest in civil engineering and asked about the current trends and opportunities/problems in the industry. Asked about the purpose of his visit, he said,

"I was here about a year ago and said that I would come back to see how things are going and there has been a fantastic story in the meantime. A lot of work is coming in, the plant is much busier, they are getting jobs here, from China, from Mexico, places around the world, recognising the skills that are here, work that can actually only be done here. I think that that's a fantastic success story that needs to be more widely known and manufacturing on Teesside can have a bright future."
